I was flicking through Jenny Ross’ Raw Basics cook book and saw this Happy Halva recipe and it made me think of the first time I was introduced to Halva. A friend took me along to a deli at the Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne and bought some Halva – you are going to love this she said… and it was like nothing I had eaten before, sweet and rich and melt in the mouth!

So I decided to give Jenny Ross’ recipe a go – added a little Cacao to make it chocolate Halva.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup tahini
1/2 cup raw honey
dash of Himalayan salt
cinnamon, cacao, pistachios etc… for flavour
Method:
Place all ingredients into bowl and combine until a thick paste forms.
I found that the recipe needs to be refrigerated to thicken a little. The consistency is like fudge and fairly pliable. Next time, I will add some extra ground sesame seeds to the mixture so that the halva is firmer.
Very sweet – very halva and delicious.
I might use this to spread on apples or pears 🙂
