How to Make Raw Almond Milk

Delicious Almond Milk

Delicious Almond Milk

This recipe is simple and so fresh…. I prefer to make almond milk with just almonds and filtered water but this recipe has some ideas about what you can add to the milk.  Take or leave what you like – it is all good!

Ingredients:

4 cups soaked almonds (8 hours soaking)

4 cups filtered water

Optional ingredients:

1 Tbsp vanilla

1 pinch sea salt

1 Tbsp raw honey (or agave nectar)

1 pinch cinnamon

1 Tbsp mesquite powder

Method:

Blend 2 cups of soaked almonds with 2 cups of filtered water then pour mixture through a nut milk bag.  This is where it gets a bit hands on as you will need to ‘milk’ the mixture through the bag and it really is a bit like milking…  Keep the almond meal for another recipe in the fridge for 1-2 days (I will use my left over almond meal tomorrow in my almond bread recipe). Repeat for the remaining almonds and filtered water.

You can buy nut milk bags from my ebay account at: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171542793140?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

If you’d like to add flavours to the milk – add the ingredients you’d like and blend until smooth.

Almond milk keeps in the fridge for quite a few days – it is great in smoothies, ice creams and desserts.

Enjoy!

Tomato-Basil Bisque

Tomato-Basil Bisque

Tomato-Basil Bisque

It is always a weird thing making cold soup – but this one was surprisingly hearty and extremely zesty.  It leaves a delicious tang on the tongue making you want some more (something not often said about raw soups!).

Ingredients:

3-4 ripe tomatoes

1/4 cup Raw Parmesan

2 garlic cloves

1/4 cup fresh herbs (basil and parsley)

pinch of sea salt

pinch of black pepper

1/2 Tsp. cumin

pinch of cayenne pepper

1/4 Tsp. paprika

Method:

In a high speed blender, blender together all ingredients except the Parmesan and herbs until well processed.

Add in the herbs and give it a quick pulse.

Pour into a bowl and stir through the Parmesan.

Top with…

Topping:

Combine together a few chopped olives, lemon zest and some chopped parsley.

Yet another, so simple, so tasty and zesty raw food lunch made in under 10 minutes 🙂

Delicious!

Fruit and Vegetable Reboot

Feel like joining me for an energy boost?

Mango, Banana, Passion fruit & Orange

Mango, Banana, Passion fruit & Orange

I’m spending the long weekend cleansing my body by only eating raw juice and smoothies… just fruit and vegetables – that is it!

I’ve spent the last few days watching a couple of videos on Obesity and the effect it has on health.  It has also been the topic of my Nutrition studies this semester at Uni.  I could go on an absolute rant with this topic – but most of us understand already what overeating can do to the body – especially overeating of energy dense foods – despite how delicious they taste.

The end result is diabetes, cardiovascular disease and often cancer.

I know it is really hard to get 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit into  your body each and everyday – in fact in Australia at present – only 6% of the  population actually achieve this!

Fresh fruit and vegetables are absolutely jam packed full of disease fighting, health promoting vitamins, minerals,  phytochemicals, fibre and antioxidants – they are absolutely  necessary to keep your body healthy.

So after a good dose of Joe Cross in Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead – I decided to  reboot my body and just do fruit and vege juices and smoothies for the long

Must go get my juice out of the cupboard and get down to the shops to stock my fridge full to the brim of colourful fruits and vegetables – getting excited at the thought of it all.

Eat Well and Be Well.

Mushroom Burger and Greek Salad

Mushroom Burger with Greek Salad

Mushroom Burger with Greek Salad

It is so good to be back to the blog after a hectic past few months of moving house.

The kitchen is back together, dehydrator in place, thermomix on bench and all my raw food essentials stocked!

For lunch today I pulled out the recipe for an old favourite… Mushroom Burgers.

Added a few yellow button squashes in place of half the zucchini and yum – what a treat – topped off with another favourite – raw Greek Salad.

Greek Salad – minus avocado and salt 🙂

Eat well, be well and add a heart of gratitude.

Day 364 – Yogi Drink

Yogi Drink

Yogi Drink

I recently joined up for Yoga.  I had been meaning to for many years and finally took action when I found a Yoga class walking distance from home, regular sessions and at a good price!  So my vision board gets another tick and I am LOVING Yoga and wishing I’d started earlier… There is nothing better than stretching your body, breathing and meditating all at once – this is definitely my kind of exercise and my kind of meditation…  So when I saw a raw recipe for a Yogi drink – curious as ever – I decided to give it ago!

The last thing you want before Yoga is to have eaten a big meal – but a little something in your belly is good – especially when classes are at 6.30pm… so this is a little something to keep you going through your Yoga class… and it is amazing… sounds odd – but sweet, salty and sour all in the one drink it actually a wonderful thing…
