Fruit and Vegetable Reboot

Feel like joining me for an energy boost?

Mango, Banana, Passion fruit & Orange

Mango, Banana, Passion fruit & Orange

I’m spending the long weekend cleansing my body by only eating raw juice and smoothies… just fruit and vegetables – that is it!

I’ve spent the last few days watching a couple of videos on Obesity and the effect it has on health.  It has also been the topic of my Nutrition studies this semester at Uni.  I could go on an absolute rant with this topic – but most of us understand already what overeating can do to the body – especially overeating of energy dense foods – despite how delicious they taste.

The end result is diabetes, cardiovascular disease and often cancer.

I know it is really hard to get 5 serves of vegetables and 2 serves of fruit into  your body each and everyday – in fact in Australia at present – only 6% of the  population actually achieve this!

Fresh fruit and vegetables are absolutely jam packed full of disease fighting, health promoting vitamins, minerals,  phytochemicals, fibre and antioxidants – they are absolutely  necessary to keep your body healthy.

So after a good dose of Joe Cross in Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead – I decided to  reboot my body and just do fruit and vege juices and smoothies for the long

Just Berries

Just Berries

Must go get my juice out of the cupboard and get down to the shops to stock my fridge full to the brim of colourful fruits and vegetables – getting excited at the thought of it all.

Eat Well and Be Well.

A Perfectly Blended Raw Green Smoothie

Goodbye Trusty Sunbeam and Hello Vitamix

Christening my Vitamix in the most perfect way - a green smoothie!

Christening my Vitamix in the most perfect way – a green smoothie!

I have wanted to get a Vitamix for a VERY long time and could never ever justify outlaying the $$$ (you can pay between $700 and $1000 depending where you buy it from).

I finally bit the bullet and ‘just did it’! And I am so glad that I did!

It was christened with the making of a Green Smoothie yesterday!  My first kale green smoothie made at home that didn’t still have ‘bits’ of kale floating around.

Then today it got a workout making vege juice for breakfast and raw green curry soup for lunch 🙂

Here is my green smoothie recipe:

1/4 lemon, just remove skin

3 kale leaves, destemmed and rinsed

1 apple, quartered

1 frozen banana (or a fresh banana but replace water with ice)

1 stick celery

1 cup water (or ice cubes)

And BLEND… magically after less then 30 seconds you will have a perfectly smooth and perfectly blended green smoothie that totally rocks and is sure to give you a vitality BOOST!

You have served me well little blender...

You have served me well little blender…

Drink straight away to minimise oxidation of nutrients – that way you get maximum benefit of the vitamins, minerals and the all important cancer fighting phytochemicals that you have just whizzed up 🙂

Good bye my trusty sunbeam – it is into the bottom of the cupboard for you… mind you – you have been soooo awesome over the past 3 years – used almost daily to blend smoothies for my kids and I 🙂

Drink well and be well,

Ally x

Day 364 – Yogi Drink

Yogi Drink

Yogi Drink

I recently joined up for Yoga.  I had been meaning to for many years and finally took action when I found a Yoga class walking distance from home, regular sessions and at a good price!  So my vision board gets another tick and I am LOVING Yoga and wishing I’d started earlier… There is nothing better than stretching your body, breathing and meditating all at once – this is definitely my kind of exercise and my kind of meditation…  So when I saw a raw recipe for a Yogi drink – curious as ever – I decided to give it ago!

The last thing you want before Yoga is to have eaten a big meal – but a little something in your belly is good – especially when classes are at 6.30pm… so this is a little something to keep you going through your Yoga class… and it is amazing… sounds odd – but sweet, salty and sour all in the one drink it actually a wonderful thing…

Loving it  x
