Day 292 – Sprouted Whole Grain Cereal

It was an amazing sunny morning this morning in Melbourne and what better way to start the day than sitting in the sunshine eating a wholesome bowl of fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains.  Was delicious!

To prepare this recipe you do need to have some sprouted wheat grains on hand.  This is easy though!

Sprouting wheat grain:

Soak 1 cup of wheat grains in filtered water overnight.

In the morning rinse and drain and allow to sit in a warm spot inside.  I leave them in the bowl.

Repeat the rinsing and draining in the evening and then for a further day both morning and evening.

By this time you will start to see little tails on the end of your grains – they are ready to eat.

I then place a piece of paper towel in a plastic container, pop the sprouted grains into the container, pop on the lid and place in the fridge.  These will last for a few days in the fridge – ready for you to have for breakfast a few days in a row.

At first it is a bit odd eating sprouted wheat grains – but they are soft and filling and yummy!

Putting together your cereal:

2 cups fresh or frozen fruit, chopped

1/2 cup sprouted wheat

3 Tbsp. nuts and seeds (I combined together a handful of walnuts, almonds, pepitas and some coconut in the food processor and threw in a few Gogi berries too)

1 Tbsp. ground flaxseed

Combine all together in a bowl – top with some almond milk if you like!

Be creative as you like with this recipe changing the fruits, the nuts and seeds – add vanilla if you like or a few dates.
